Citizenship Test

The Australian government has decided to make it a little tougher for migrants to become citizens. They have introduced a new citizenship test. While many PRs who wish to become full-fledge citizens are not happy about it, I think it's only fair. After all, there are way too many migrants in Australia. Apparently, 25% of Australians were born elsewhere.

I'm not too worried about the test. I know when the time comes, I'll pass with flying colours. I've been passing tests consistently, except for the darn practical driving test that I had to sit for FIVE times (and Maths test, of course. Still have nightmares about that.)

What I'm trying to say here is that all is fair, despite an additonal obstacle. Sure there are debates that if an existing citizen takes the test and fails, does that mean his or her citizenship is revoked? And the nature of the questions are being questioned too. It appears that some of the questions are a bit "out" - like asking the applicant about certain sport legends. Yes, the debates can go on and on.

But it's the law now. You want the citizenship, you have to sit for and pass the test. Fair enough. This is a lot better than applying for a Malaysian citizenship, which can take up to more than 40 years if you have the wrong skin colour and religion. Indonesians dying to be Malaysians will be glad to know that they are exempted from that rule, though.

No one has sat for the Australian citizenship test yet. But the first batch of applicants will do so on Oct 1, 2007. Until then, we can only guess just how tricky the questions are.

i can verify some of them. imagine scoring all As and not being able to get anywhere? not that i scored that many As lar but we all know that.

Also my parents were both civil servants before retiring. and man, most of their colleagues never had to do much, damn sickening.

while the government tries to paint a rosy picture after 50 years of independence, we all know the truth that lurks beneath the picture. sad but true.

by the way, whatever happened to that Namewee bloke? do you know?

Both your parents civil servants? How come I thought chinese are marginalised?

So if your parents are the only two people working in the civil servants they must be superman/woman seeing how successful malaysia is..

or will collapsed now that both your parents retired...

Namawee will be arrested for insulting the negaraku unless he choose to stay back in his home country..I doubt the mainland wants him a capitalist, they will send to reform school to learn to share with his fellow commie..

Why do you want to be malaysian in the first place? Waiting 40 years for malaysian citizenship...wow it must b worth it. After all you can try australia.. very fast if you can answer all the question

Why are people dying to be malaysian? Why don't you try to be Chinese citizenship since you are chinese? Why harp on the malays.. A lot of questions isn't it.

And your parents both of them were malaysian civil servants...hmmmm quite an achievement..why did they bother?

adam: as usual, u completely fail to see the point. Non-Malay civil servants were once normal in the 60s, 70s & has now dwindled to non-exitence. When was the last time u saw a muhibbah govt dept?

U are a rite wanker, u know. And yes, WeiYin is another great exmaple of brain drain that will lead to our country's collapse.

So many questions? Fook off, u arsehole, u didn't answer ONE fooking question on the list.

U must be one of those "bright" JPA scholars who got sent overseas with two Es & one 'unclassified'.

And why must we WAIT fer 40 years fer citizenship? U can't answer one single question . . . U have a very bright future with United Malays Nazi Organisation in the youth wing as political analyst. So pandai la this adam dude . . .
